The Danza de los Tecuanes, (Jaguar Dancers)  has its Mixtecan origins. The jaguar - the wild beast - is a symbol of strength, rain, and earth fertility. The Dancer wears the yellow spotted mask and carries the whip, to mimic the sound of thunder and the roar of the beast. In this particular representation the bearer of the mask is a skeleton.
