An early work by Coindo Melchor Gomez, who was one of the first generation of the best of the Oaxacan woodcaravers depicting traditional subjects as well as imaginary ones as e.g. his 'Illusions'.. Unfortunately in this object one of the two oxen is lost, so is the farmer who once led the traditional ox cart.

One of Agustín's traditional subjects is farmers processing their sugar cane. This rare piece is lovingly carved and has been painted by Edilma Cruz Prudencio, the daughter of Agustín.

This form of weaving is still common in Oaxaca. It is used to make fine, narrow cloth. Gabino shows one weaver at work whereas two or three weaver as might use the same tree to anchor their looms.

The cart pulled by oxen is still a potent image of Oaxacan village life. It is a worthy subject. Manuel , his father Agustin, Coindo Melchor and Francisco Santiago Cruz have made memorable examples.
