Reyes has a wide range of subject matter. Some works are taken from nature whilst in others nature is inspired with religious iconography.  He moves easily from the natural world to the religious and to the mythical. In this piece he shows incredible skill in carving the finest of faces of the virgin, surrounded by minuscule flowers. At the foot of the cactus sits a 'tlacomiztle' (racoon like carnivore) watching every move of the grasshoppers.
