Maria Jimenez Ojeda lives with her extended family in a tranquil home, in San Martin, that is still centered on farming. For many artisans farming still comes before carving or painting. Even for Maria, who is a great painter. Maria is gentle, unaffected and serious about her work. She has the unique skills and patience to create endless small detail. It is as if she has the means to paint the world and all its parts. And, unlike some painters it is unwise for anyone to attempt to copy her.
She relies on the carvings of her brothers Alberto and Candido and its is their task to provide Maria with objects worthy of her skills. She applies her best painting to all that is carved but the best works are slow to appear and rarer to purchase. There is no greater pleasure than to receive a work from Maria.
