Gabino Reyes has a magical imagination. He transforms the world around him with visions. Like San Diego he has seen something that others have not and which only exist in the stories he now tells with wood carving. Again, like so many artisans, he is a farmer and passionate about his land and crops. He and his wife are hospitable and kind.

One wonders if there is a relationship between farmers and wood carving. There are obvious and undeniable linkages. But is there really something more that makes these farmers the artist that they are. Is it the life of a farmer in this world of Oaxaca that predestines them to make these works. Is in the life cycles of the fields and with animals that they see a world other do not. If that is the case then wood carving will change radically as less and less of the young see there life in the land.
